We've now been supporting local groups since January 2012.
39 grand awards have been distributed so far to a wide variety of Chelmsford groups.

Latest winner

The final vote of 2014 is over - the results are in!

November saw 400 votes cast, with just 30 splitting our first and second place groups.  Essex Agricultural Society prevailed and will receive £750, PARC Essex will receive the runner up award of £200.

Essex Agricultural Society will be putting their award towards the running costs of the annual Food and Farming Day at Writtle College.  PARC Essex will use their money to help fund a play worker at their Braintree Centre.

October Vote - Just Two Votes In It!

Sanctus will receive our £750 award after recieving two votes more than our runners up, Dyslexia Action.  Sanctus plan to spend the money on providing meals for the homeless and needy in Chelmsford.

Dyslexia Action will put their runner up award, of £200, into their learning fund.  The fund is used to assist children to access specialist tution as well as be assessed for Dyslexia. 

Congratulations to two great groups.

Scouts take September Award

The 2nd Chelmsford Scouts secured 237 votes to win the September Grand Award of £750. Chelmsord Amateur Boxing Club came a worthy second and will recieve £200.

Both groups will use their awards to improve facilities for members at their respective venues.

Congratulations to Margaretting Village Hall

Margaretting scooped over half the votes to win the July Grand Award of £750.  The Canoe Club came a valiant second to receive £250.  Both groups intend to use their awards to improve facilities at their respective venues.  Well done to you both.




Grand Awards to Close for Winter Months

Grand Awards will be taking its annual winter break during December, January and February.

We will still accept applications but we will not be holding any public votes.

The scheme will relaunch in February and our first public vote will take place in March.

344 people cast their vote at 'We Are Chelmsford' event.

An amazing 344 people visited our stall last Friday to cast their vote and help choose our special event Grand Award winner.  

All three groups tookt the time to attend and worked hard to canvas the public and spread the word about their groups acitivities.  The 3 groups that took part were: Hanningfield Sailability; The Stroke Club for Mid Essex and Chelmsford Community Support Centre.

A refreshed Grand Awards Scheme goes live on 1st April

From the 1st of April Chelmsford Grand Awards will look like this:

- Vote winner will recieve £750

- Runner up will received £200

- The third placed group will be reconsidered for the vote in 6 months

- Applications for core costs (running costs) as well as project funding will be accepted

- The scheme will be open from March through to November each year

Coppelia - The Magic Doll

In January 2013 the Chelmsford Ballet Company received £1000 from Chelmsford Grand Awards.  By March, when they presented Coppelia to the residents of Chelmsford, the company had used the money to restore and repair the spectacular scenery that was used throughout the production.  Part of the award was also used to purchase tutu net which allowed the company to replace ageing costumes. 

Marconi Ponds Open Day 18th May

The Marconi Ponds Activity Trail, partly funded by a Grand Award, was officially opened on the 18th of May.  The opening took place at the annual Marconi Ponds Open Day; a fun packed event that welcomed almost 200 visitors to the nature reserve.
