Last award of 2013 goes to Wilderness Foundation

The December grand award will go towards the Down to Earth Local Food Programme currently running at the Hobart Close allotments in Chelmsford. 

Hosted by the Wilderness Foundation the project aims to: encourage local people to grow their own food; raise awareness amongst local community of natural world and environment and sustainability issues and to bring local people together with a common goal.

The award will contribute towards the cost of an instuctor.  The instructor is regularly on site providing assistance and support as well as educational activities.  Further info: http://goo.gl/5xl5j7

November Win for Ravens Youth FC

Congratulations to the Ravens Youth FC who have won the November vote. 

They plan to use to the award to purchase a new set of goals as well as 2 new match day kits.

 

Writtle Brownies win October vote

Voting was neck and neck throughout the month with Writtle just beating Bar n Bus by 19 votes!  Well done.

The Brownies want to use the award towards transport to a Brownie Centenary Event - The Big Brownie Birthday - at Butlins, Skegness.  This is one of many centenary events being held around the country from January through to August 2014.

September Award goes to Galleywood Heritage Centre

The Galleywood Heritage Centre prevailed in the September vote, receiving 302 of the 788 votes cast; 40% of the total. Galleywood will spend the award on a new wall mounted projector screen for the Centre's main hall. The new screen will benefit all that attend the Centre for its regular talks, presentations and displays.

A refreshed Grand Awards Scheme goes live on 1st April

From the 1st of April Chelmsford Grand Awards will look like this:

- Vote winner will recieve £750

- Runner up will received £200

- The third placed group will be reconsidered for the vote in 6 months

- Applications for core costs (running costs) as well as project funding will be accepted

- The scheme will be open from March through to November each year

We will be updating the website over the next few days.

Coppelia - The Magic Doll

In January 2013 the Chelmsford Ballet Company received £1000 from Chelmsford Grand Awards.  By March, when they presented Coppelia to the residents of Chelmsford, the company had used the money to restore and repair the spectacular scenery that was used throughout the production.  Part of the award was also used to purchase tutu net which allowed the company to replace ageing costumes. 

Marconi Ponds Open Day 18th May

The Marconi Ponds Activity Trail, partly funded by a Grand Award, was officially opened on the 18th of May.  The opening took place at the annual Marconi Ponds Open Day; a fun packed event that welcomed almost 200 visitors to the nature reserve.

Park Walks with Dementia Adventure

Dementia Adventure recently completed its 2012 summer programme of local park walks. 

These walks were made possible by the £1000 'grand award' Dementia Adventure won in the April Chelmsford Grand Awards public vote. 

189 people took part in a programme of 10 walks; at least 90 of those participating are people living with dementia.

Galleywood Celebrates in Style

Galleywood Celebrates 2012 are the first of our winners to spend their £1,000.

The money contributed to the cost of holding a free community event that took place on Saturday 2nd of June.  The event celebrated the Jubilee and the forthcoming Olympic games.
