Essex Sense April Winners

Essex Sense secured nearly 70% of the votes to win the April Award.  They will be using the money to provide a day club in Chelmsford for older deafblind people. 

The award will not only provide a suitable venue for the club, but will help with transport costs and with the cost of the trained communicator guides that enable the older deafblind people to leave the isolation of their homes to attend the club.

March Award Won by Scouts

The 1st Great Baddow Scouts polled more than 50% of the vote to win the March Grand Award.  The group plans to use the money to expand the size of the group, providing more young people (6-14) with the opportunity to participate in scout activities.

Foam Pit for Radical Bikes

Community Interest Company Radical Bikes have won our February vote.  The award will go towards the building costs of a foam pit for their cycling venue in Highwood.  This new facility will enable riders to practise turns and flips in a safer way.

Chelmsford Ballet Company - January Winners

The Chelmsford Ballet Company has won the January Grand Award with an impressive 65% of the 842 votes cast.  The award will be used to fund the transportation of a large stage set required for their next production; Coppelia.  They will use any remaininig funds to purchase fabric to make new costumes for this and future productions.

The Company is a not for profit organisation.  Their annual performance at Chelmsfords Civic Theatre provides young dancers from the Chelmsford area with a rare opportunity to perform on a professional stage.

Marconi Ponds Open Day 18th May

The Marconi Ponds Activity Trail, partly funded by a Grand Award, will be officially opened on the 18th of May.  The annual open day starts at 1pm with a range of activities for visitors of all ages, including: pond dipping; guided tours; face painting and badge making.

Park Walks with Dementia Adventure

Dementia Adventure recently completed its 2012 summer programme of local park walks. 

These walks were made possible by the £1000 'grand award' Dementia Adventure won in the April Chelmsford Grand Awards public vote. 

189 people took part in a programme of 10 walks; at least 90 of those participating are people living with dementia.

Galleywood Celebrates in Style

Galleywood Celebrates 2012 are the first of our winners to spend their £1,000.

The money contributed to the cost of holding a free community event that took place on Saturday 2nd of June.  The event celebrated the Jubilee and the forthcoming Olympic games. 

Chelmsford Officially a City

Chelmsford is officially a City having recieved its letters patent on the 6th of June. 

The town beat off competition from a number of others across England, including Southend, to win the "civic honours" accolade.  The awards were granted by The Queen under the royal prerogative, following advice from ministers.
